TriLift
Giving rise to a new medical device name
The Challenge:
Create a breakthrough medical device name for a facial aesthetics platform
Lumenis needed a name for a facial aesthetics device combined three distinct technologies: muscle stimulation, radiofrequency, and RF microneedling. That combination offered a broader approach to facial rejuvenation, but made the product difficult to describe in a simple, memorable way. The name had to feel credible to practitioners evaluating the technology while also appealing to patients seeking a more lifted, refreshed appearance. It needed to suggest the benefit without promising a surgical facelift or reducing the device to any one of its three technologies. The challenge was to make a complex treatment feel clear, approachable, and distinctive in a crowded aesthetics market.
The "Ah-ha" Moment:
Name the Treatment, Not Just the Technology
The breakthrough was to give people a treatment to ask for, not a device name to remember. TriLift turned Lumenis’s three technologies into one clear idea: a more lifted appearance. “Tri” captured the three-part approach; “Lift” gave patients the outcome they wanted in a word they already understood. Together, they formed a new term that could live naturally in a patient’s question: “Do you offer TriLift?” For practitioners, that made a complex treatment easier to introduce and recommend. For Lumenis, it created a name people could seek out for an experience only its technology could deliver.
TriLift adds to Tungsten’s growing body of medical device naming work for leading manufacturers, including Dominion Aesthetic Technologies and Dornier MedTech.
