The Challenge:

In a world of sound-a-like crowdsourcing brand names, our client needed a standout name that would beat the competition (in a good way:)

The Solution:

Create a disruptive name that playfully communicates the positive notion of teaming up and getting great deals.

Some of the most effective brand names are those that walk the line between edgy and fun loving. Examples are brands such as Monster and Slack. These names can be viewed as either negative (a scary monster) or positive (a huge “monster” website.) Slack can be viewed as slacking off or “picking up the slack.” In each case, the name creates interest, intrigue and curiosity. The consumer knows instinctively the name cannot mean the negative so the mind goes to “just what is this about?” This creates an opening. In the case of GangUp, it’s a call to arms, “let’s join forces!” For people looking to buy specialty parts, or custom made items, it’s expensive to go it alone. So ganging up, sharing the cost, and getting a better deal just makes sense. We were able facilitate the purchase of the exact matching .com to further solidify the brand identity. So rather than pay up, you can now just gang up! Another bright idea from the Tungsten naming lab.
